Xanga communicaton
It would have been very helpful if Xanga communicated on a regular basis on the progress of their plans. I would like to see more of that community spirit not in Xanga 2.0 but also that is manifests in the current Xanga. Why not ask for input and create an excitement and momentum for Xanga 2.0? Xanga can not be just the product of Technical developers but should have input into group psychology in order to develop an even deeper community. A once in every month communication from the Xanga team is absolutely unacceptable and does not bode well for Xanga 2.0
The only spark of hope is @edlives who has really been doing his part of promoting and supporting the Xanga cause. However he is also left in the dark and unsupported. Xanga 2.0 can be sustainable and it can be a success story but for that to happen the Xanga Team has to get out of the jungle and start to engage with the community that is supporting and pledging to keep Xanga 2.0 going. Xanga 2.0 will start with some die hard supporters, but that is not a sustainable situation. To be sustainable, Xanga must have a growth strategy and a strategy that makes all its members willing contributors to the brand name of Xanga. However Xanga must be consistent with that brand and what the brand stand for – which I believe is primarily standing for a unique community of bloggers. If it is a community of bloggers the Xanga team can not stand seperated from the community but has to be fully part of that community.

I agree. Aside from edlives I don’t even know who’s on the xanga team except John.
Thank you for the encouraging words. I did get a chance to touch base with the Xanga Team today. We’re trying to work on some level of improved communication while they are hard at work getting the data migrated to 2.0 and getting things set up.I will be sharing a blog post soon to explain more, but they are well aware of their challenges in the area of communication. Their focus at this moment is getting things together for the relaunch.
I’ll share more soon, but wanted to say, “thank you” - and that we’re all working together on this one.and… good points you have in this post as well.
@LadyofWaters - John, Marc, Eugenia, Bob, Justin… and a few others…. along with a bunch of interns.
@edlives –
lol thanks
@LadyofWaters - no problem.
The lack of communication at this point has become a little discouraging. While I understand the need of a small team to concentrate on the programming and migration, I have wondered if the recent wonkiness reflects the fact that there are code changes happening, or migrations in process — but that could be used to advantage, rather than leaving us to wonder. I am still optimistic that 2.0 can happen, and will, but it’s a little difficult to be enthusiastic in that optimism! Many thanks to Joel ( @edlives ) for keeping us motivated and informed!
@edlives has just posted a very helpful update — and it sounds as his updates will be better supported in the days to come — I hope so.
Life is so rich in beauty, but I went to the top of the enormous pressure to pay living expenses.Wow sow good envy your life, too moist, full of tourist.I can only sell Hublot watches, also welcome to visit, give yourself a gift of travel with a wristwatch.
I’ve been coming back to Xanga to follow up on the well being of our community. In a way, something good is coming out of this; I’m returning at a regular basis, to keep an eye on this. I wouldn’t want to see this site gone. Hope that 2.0 works out. I’ll be supportive and it’ll take some time getting use to the changes.
They make it seem like they’re too busy to bring us up to date. But we’re not talking about daily updates, or even weekly ones. Why not bi-weekly at least? And it’s not like we want 2 page explanations of what’s going on, a simple 5 minute post would be sufficient just to let us know someone’s still there. Can they honestly say nobody on the Xanga Team can spare 5 minutes out of a weekend to use Xanga?
@edlives – My concern is for the continuation of Xanga and it’s sustainability. As an industrial engineer I understand that the systems aspect is just part of the solution.
@Zeal4living - That is a valid concern. Out of many discussions – here’s what I’ve realized:- the site being moved to better servers and not requiring as much hardware (with also having upgraded technology both hardware and software) – the cost to maintain will be lowered than what it is now.- by using the wordpress based platform, which is open source, there is expected to be significant longevity in the software and programming.ok, with the logistics streamlined and upgradedwhat else is there?- Customer relationships - With more open source software, it will allow Xanga to pass along much of the responsibility on how users want to manage their blog… to the end user. This also allows Xanga to work with it’s users more than ever before – developing add on’s at a quicker turn time than what we currently have.- Marketing - This, in my opinion, is the thing that Xanga (and us Xangans) really need to look at. We can have a great platform, but we need to market it better. The good news is that Xanga wants to work with us in this aspect as well. From free trial/free blogging options, to promotional and advertising to the general public – we should have serious options to get the word out.There are ways to make it more sustainable, but we have to start somewhere, right?
Hmm. Xanga. Strategy. … Xanga… Strategy… Is there room at your hookah for one more? Amethyst says “Hi!”.
You brought up some very valid points in your post. I’m glad Edlives has some information. peace always
At the beginning of Xanga, 1999-2000, nobody knew who was in control of Xanga – there were no faces of ownership, no one to ask for help, no one to complain to. I actually forced ownership’s hand by discerning who the “xangagods” were (from under the cyber covers) and they then eased into the spotlight.Apparently, so at the cradle, so at the grave. It is good to be a god, until you fail.
