  • When conventional wisdom fails

    When conventional wisdom fails.

    Pondering.

Do not always rely on conventional wisdom. Test your assumptions on what people are really saying. The messages given and the message you perceive might not be the same. Be sure to confirm your understanding. Godel proofed that logic alone can not be consistent and complete at the same time. Paradoxical logic is sometimes needed to gain a deeper understanding into the world around us.

Keep to the facts, deny the lie its attraction and allure. Be clear on all your options for often when you choose the obvious it will fail you...the better decision is often hidden behind the obvious.

You do not have to over reach yourself but rather be realistic about what can be done within your own capability. The illusion might fool many people but do not allow yourself to be drawn into group think. True values are not always seen in the obvious...take time to observe the people and question whether a smile is being polite or genuine joy. Groups are attracted to pleasure and enjoyment....seldom to what is needed to really have a victory. Self-realisation often will require from you that you trust in yourself, in your own gut feel. To be yourself you must often be willing to move against the stream of collective thought.

Dare to be different when you know what is right. Do not build doubt into your mind because other people think differently. Be cautious but walk with confidence.

  • Group think is dangerous territory.

  • I thought conventional wisdom was called conventional wisdom 'cause it's almost always wrong.

  • @C_L_O_G - Yes, I was never too strong in thinking like the group.

@LoBornlytesThoughtPalace - I hope my use of it is correct....sometimes "not being Enligh speaking" does land me in trouble.

  • Your use of "conventional wisdom"was correct. To be sure, CW once said the earth was flat - but CW now says the sun will rise in the east tomorrow - which is very likely.

Most people use CW to cover their own inattention to facts and situations - group think is alway an attractive lazy man's out - a reason to avoid thinking for yourself.I used to think that if I had an idea, it was probably already used by others, but have since discovered that often my ideas differed from or were new to others thinking - and that I was often right - so much for following the crowd.

  • I needed to read this! Thank you!
That last paragraph is very important to me today.
It scares me to think how easily "mob" thinking can develop and carry people away to do and say things that are wrong.
    HUGS!

  • As I see it, in all matter of self awareness or realization, there is nothing like relying on the ever knowledgable, still small voice.

  • Reading this made me feel a bit better. Thank you.
