    2012 in review

    Goals and objectives

2012 was an interesting year. From an astrological perspective Saturn left Libra my birth sign on 12 October 2012. A time of discipline and refocusing on basics came to an end. The foundation was laid for the way forward.

    Health

My weight remained constant this year at about 84 kg which is still a good 10 Kg over my target weight. I had no major ailments during the year and was generally blessed with good health. My ears remain a weakness which can flare up in an ear ache at any moment in time.  I only had some flu once for which I was booked off for two days to restore my equilibrium.

I started drinking Chinese teas this year and it was a wonderful journey of exploration into the diversity of Chinese teas like Jujube and Goji berry teas. I bought myself a Chinese tea set and am drinking regularly Chinese tea at work rather than coffee or soda's.

    Physique - Tai Chi

I am in general happy with my physical achievements in 2012. I continued throughout this year with my Tai Chi training and gained an enormous amount of value from it. Tai Chi definitely drives away vapidity and invites into life more vitality. I experienced a greater sense of harmony, coordination and wholeness  as a result of doing Tai Chi. I have been able to participate in Tai Chi at the local school through Shifu Suliman Sampson and at Parliament with Shifu M.J. Li. With Shifu Suliman I have learned the basic 24 forms and although I am still busy perfecting it I have gained some mastery of all 24 steps in the form. I have continued with the sword form but progress was slow. A highlight of the year was when I participated in a demonstration of Tai Chi at the local China Town chain of shops. We did 11 steps with Shifu M.J. Li as well as basic Kung Fu steps which resulted in an informal grading in the end of the year. I got an 8 out of 10 with a little certificate. The one lesson I learned from Shifu M.J. Li is that every opportunity is a learning opportunity ... irrespective what you are busy with. Tai Chi practice at work contributed to me broadening my sphere of friends. Doing Tai Chi in the Old National Assembly room was a significant moment for me.

In terms of Tai Chi it was a breakthrough moment for me when I could relate the 18 Armanen runes to the 24 Tai Chi form. It opened up a whole new way for me of engaging with both the Armanen runes and Tai Chi

    Home

I am dissatisfied with my ability to have maintained my home mainly due to a lack of resources. The two most pressing issues is my swimming pool and the fire place in my home. The one for summer time and the other for winter time. My swimming pool had been out of order for most of the year due to a leakage I could not repair and the steel chimney of my fireplace corroded away.  I manage to maintain all other assets like my car and the house is generally in a good state.

    Family - General

A highlight of the year was catching a small snake in my home.

    Family - Parenting

I have very good relationships with my two daughters but my relationship with my son require much more effort.  There is nothing wrong with my son but my personality and my son's personality is vastly different from each other. I am particularly proud of my eldest daughter's achievements. Being mentally handicapped the world is a much bigger challenge for her than for most people. She joined Toastmasters last year with me and the organisation's training skills development in leadership and communication had an amazing impact on her. She has now completed 5 presentations from the manual and is half way to becoming a competent communicator certificate. Last week she managed the toastmaster club meeting as the Toastmaster. My club is a bunch of amazing people who accepted her and really all helping to develop in her the confidence to take on such a role.  I have had time to develop my relationship with my younger daughter since she joined me doing Tai Chi and it gave us plenty of opportunity to talk about life. She has also adopted much of my mystical interests which meant that we often had the opportunity to talk about life. She is really blessed with much wisdom for a 16 year old. She has also done some amazing art this year that truly deserves to be recognized. I manage to go with my daughter for a day to the the Temenos Gardens in McGreggor where we meditated together and spend time walking through the gardens. My son participates in Stage coach where they learn the arts of drama, dancing and singing. Although I can not participate with him in that ...I am very proud of what he has achieved. Both my younger children did well academically at school and both of them excelled in art and culture. My boy won the price as the best culture student in the school and my daughter for being the best visual artist in her school. My son was the first boy academically in the school and 6th in his grade. I went with my boy earlier this year to watch a play at an opera. The most challenging moment for me this year was when I caught my son surfing gay websites. He is at the age of discovering his sexuality and being more into art than into sport he had to question whether he is homosexual. His investigation into sexuality and homosexuality in particular was not the challenge but I was disappointed that he could not talk to me as his father about it. In the end the whole ordeal led to a better relationship. I affirmed that our love and acceptance is not based on sexual orientation. I also told him it is natural that he will ask those questions and actually good that he does investigate his sexuality.  I think I gave him good guidance on how to explore his preferences and warned him of the dangers in seeking advice from untested sources. That truly was the most difficult time of parenthood for me this year.

    Finances

Finances leveled out without much highs or lows. I managed a tight budget, did not incur any new debts and actually reduced some of my debts to a minimum. There is no large amounts of cash lying around and I am financially high risk in the sense that I do not have much buffer to deal with major crises situations. My medical benefits, life cover, insurance and retirement planning are all way below what is desirable and remained a major concern for me. My only consolation is that I my only major debt is related to my car and my house debt. I earned a stable income and could fulfill my obligations and kept my family fed, clothed and happy.

    Technology

My personal computer crashed totally this year and I replaced it with a new laptop - and HP pavilion g series. Not the biggest nor the fastest but sufficient to do my work with. My work laptop gave me problems the whole year and I am going to ask them to re-image the laptop in the start of 2013. I got a i-Pad on loan this year which gave me the opportunity to experiment a bit with i-pad technologies.  I must say that I have not fully adopted or found true added value from the i-pad relative to my cell phone. However it was good to investigate the technology and how I can best use it in my life.

    Computer gaming

I was off the computer gaming bandwagon this year. I saw many computer games through my children's eyes. My own computer gaming was absorbed in a network game that I started playing on my cell phone called Age of Legends. It is a typical war strategy game where one fight wars in a clan of maximum 10 people. I build a nice online friendship with my clan members since we interact on war strategies. The game is very static and not at all dynamic in terms of graphics but the game has a rich diversity in terms of strategies one can employ. I am proud to say that my clan is now ranked the number 2 clan in this online gaming world with about 2975 clans. I enjoyed building a quality team for this online gaming world and enjoyed devising strategies with them of how to get to the top rank.

     Travel

A definite highlight for the year was my visit to Brussels to attend an XML conference at the European Parliament. It was a short but memorable journey and my first visit to the European continent.

    Social - Toastmasters

I continued to be active as a normal member in Toastmasters. I did not fulfill any roles like I did in the past because I had basically done everything I had to do. The highlight of the year was to win the Division showcase for Afrikaans and going through to participate at the District's conference where I won the 2nd price for Afrikaans. Not just was it good to get a price but it was great to show the expressiveness of my native language. Earlier in the year i manage to compete up to division level with my humorous speech called: Points of failure.  I got permission to start a new Toastmaster's club at our Parliament but have not started the club yet. The other highlight of the year was the opportunity to visit the Toastmasters club in Brussels and to give a presentation to them. I enjoyed feeling part of a global community and was so warmly received by the club that it remains a happy memory. I was awarded in this year by my club the award as the Toastmaster of the Year as well as the best prepared speaker of the year. It was a great honor for me to get these two awards.

    Social - Blogging

I neglected blogging largely during this time. This is blog entry number 95 for this year which means I only blogged 25% of the days of the year. I also only tweeted a few tweets but overall blogging was low priority in this year and might continue to be until my PhD is completed. I have an issue with Xanga not being able to download my web archives.

    Social - Friendships

I grew old friendships with those with whom I can share not just facts but also opinions and viewpoints. I am happy that there were growth in my friendships. A highlight was certainly going to a friends 50th birthday party where the theme was to dress your aged turned arround so he being 50 had to dress as if he is 5 years old.

Creativity - Art, poetry and music

My art was mostly neglected this year. I managed to complete only two oil paintings and currently have a third in progress which should be finished before the end of the year. The one was a painting of a lady's face and the other of a martial arts theme. I am currently busy painting a Buddhist monk. I have drawn only a handful of pencil sketches during this year.  I was honored by somebody framing one of my previous year paintings and putting it up in her home. She reports back that she got many positive comments from it. I am happy to know a piece of art is hanging somewhere to beautify another person's home.

I wrote only one poem this year on disability day.

I was introduced to Taiko drumming this year. Something I really would like to take up but just dont have the time to make the commitment.

    Training

I had the privilege of attending a few training sessions this year.  Early this year I attended a change management workshop of two day where I was reminded of the importance of change management. In the latter part of the year I went on an Oracle APEX training where I learned how to develop software solutions using Application express from Oracle. The course was more challenging since my programming knowledge is a bit rusty but I quickly caught up and enjoyed the course. My division went on a team building course which was an excellent time not just to get to know my fellow workers better but it was also a time to reminded about what makes a team work.

    Labor

It was my second year of a 5 year contract at the Parliament of South Africa. A less successful year from my own perspective. The main success was the successful implementation of the parliamentary content management system in our own unit. The implementation was hugely successful although it is limited in scale. The big disappointment for the year was that my performance reporting project was put on hold until further notice. I spend most of my year preparing for the implementation of a Business Intelligence solution. Everything went smoothly until the very last signature was required to approve the procurement process. However there was a change to the Secretary to Parliament and the whole process collapsed due to a lack of decision making. The project is still ear marked as a priority project but the there is concern about the readiness to adopt the solution. Nevertheless after having spend eight months of proofs of concepts, meetings, documents where the traffic light was green for go and then walking into a brick wall...was the biggest personal disappointment for me in this year. The benefit as part of the preparation is that I have finalized an information management framework and measured the information management maturity of the institution. In terms of my Business Analyst team we succeeded in getting the business cases signed off for several high tech projects that will make a big impact on Parliament's effectiveness and efficiency. My toastmaster skills was highly valued in being asked to do several presentations, key note speeches and facilitation of strategic planning meetings.

A small but significant change in this year was being able to park under cover this year and not outside. Parking undercover was a luxury I really appreciated.

    Intellect - PhD

I finalized my PhD topic in this year and got approval to continue with my PhD. My topic: An industry information reference framework enabling semantic and syntactic interoperability in the industry of parliaments based on enterprise architecture design principles.  I read a million of academic articles on information reference frameworks, enterprise architecture, interoperability etc. I wrote my first academic article based on my literature research for presentation at the COMA13 conference which is an international conference that will take place in early 2013. I need a minimum of two such articles to be published before I can get my PhD. My abstract was accepted but I have not had final feedback from the review board on the article itself. If the article is accepted then it will mean effectively that I have done 50% of the minimum requirement outside of writing my thesis. The article is titled: Competitiveness through collaboration and investigates seven industry information reference models and the basic components that is included in those reference models.

    Spirituality - Rosicrucian

I continued with my Rosicrucian studies through AMORC and gained such an enormous value out of the studies. Not just from what they are teaching but also from the thinking that was stimulated within me. I have been asked if to consider leading our local group in 2013/14. I knew that it will require a huge investment of time that might unsettle several other areas of my life but after much deliberation decided to accept the opportunity. The bylaws state that the leadership role is only for a year and I felt that I received so much from the order that it is time to give something of value back in the form of service. I gave a presentation about what I learned from the Rosicrucian order to the Theosophical society. Another highlight was the 45 minutes presentation i gave at a conclave meeting called: The way of the heart - a journey towards wholeness. Both presentations were structured using the enneagram which is not a Rosicrucian symbol but still a good framework to use to impart my knowledge. I remain in debt to Gurdjieff and JG Bennett for exposing the methods of working with the enneagram as an organizing principle. I have grown in depth during this year in understanding and practicing mysticism. I am far from being an adept but that is of secondary importance. Primary importance is to continual on this path, which had been so life fulfilling for me.

My interest in divination systems are continuing and I recently bought myself a new Tarot deck called the Steampunk Tarot. I bought myself the Oswald Wirth tarot this year and received the Spanish tarot as a gift. I have been successful in meditating on a regular basis as part of by life habits.

    Reading

I read many books this year...often those that I bought in earlier years to refresh my mind. Some of the new books I read were:

    1. Rosicrucian Questions with answers with Complete history of the Rosicrucian order by H. Spencer Lewis
    2. The true and invisible Rosicrucian Order by Paul Foster Case
    3. I-Ching translated by James Legge and edited by Laura Ross
    4. The view Beyond - Sir Francis Bacon - Alchemy, science and mystery edited by Dave Patric
    5. Egyptian tales and legends by E.A. Wallis Budge
    6. Six eminent mystics by Raymond Andrea

    12. The key to theosophy by HP Blavatsky
    13. The First principles of philosophy by Manly P. Hall
    14. The Total Kabbalah

Currently I am reading The mystery experience - A revolutionary approach to spiritual awakening.

    Personal spiritual book writing

I copied the following in my personal spiritual book where I copy texts that is of importance to me:

    1. 48 laws of power - A summary of the games people play to gain power
    2. Binding the wolf within - A Nordic poem on how to the God Tyr bound the Fenris wolf...and how we need to deal with our fears and doubts
    3. Tao te Ching - A few parts from the Tao te Ching that describes the Tao
    4. The true master - A short paragraph on what it means to be a mystic
    5. Tai Chi Chuan Ching - The classical writings of the principles that underpins Tai Chi movements
    6. The pattern on the trestle board: This is truth about self - A mystical text of principles for the self
    7. Rosicrucian invocations - Set of short prayers uttered by Rosicrucians in service of the divine.

There is so much more I wished to do in this year but I am happy for that which I was blessed with in 2012. Overall it was a good year of growth for me.

May You Find Awesome New Ways Yearly

  • International Day for Persons with Disabilities

International Day for Persons with Disabilities

3 December 2012 marks the 12th anniversary of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities (IDPwD). IDPwD is a United Nations sanctioned day which aims to promote: An understanding of disability issues The rights of persons with disabilities Gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of the political, social, economic and cultural life of their communities.

IDPwD brings together individuals, businesses, community organisations, and governments from every corner of the world to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions, skills and achievements of people with disabilities. As part of the Campaign, Parliament has planned a poetry competition for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. We are encouraging employees to write about their experiences of living with a disability and or having a family member with a disability. The intention will be to inspire and motivate others in a similar position.

Since my daughter lives with a mental disability - here is my entry:

    Mental disability

The tears behind a courageous smile, unseen
the fear of not coping, unspoken
eyes that wonder with judgement from the shadows
    in silence questioning, questioning, questioning...
    Are you worthy?

    Prayers that challenge Divine Provenance
rebellion against the first breath -
the injustice that pervades in lack of cause.
Prime Benevolence failed - reached out but missed
    Are you worthy?

Yet, from deep within blooms virtue seldom seen
The desire to be whole an unquenched flame.
    Obstacles gives sway before determination;
relentlessly pushing forward, a miracle a day.
    That makes you worthy!

Lightly you carry the heavy burden meant to be
    filling emptiness with passion.
Your gracious accepting inspires all to dare
and gratitude is your gift for those in despair
    You are worthy!

  • Introductory Grading

    Introductory Grading

    Tai Chi

We started training at Parliament 5 months ago under the tutorship of Shifu M.J. Li. On Monday we did an informal certification and today the certificates were handed to all the members of the Parliament Tai Chi club.  During the grading every student was asked what Tai Chi meant for them and what lesson they have learned. For me since taking Tai Chi a year ago, is that When you inculcate control, harmony and coordination in your body it starts to pervade your live in every sphere. The one thing I will remember from M.J. Li is his saying that everything is a training opportunity. Again this does not apply to Tai Chi but it applies to everything we do in life. Besides China it seems that South Africa is the only Parliament that supports Tai Chi as part of its wellness program.  I got an 8+ grading.

  • My personal oracle

    My personal oracle

    Self knowledge

An oracle deck is designed around a theme for the purpose of divination. Not really divination in the same sense as fortune telling but rather to get insight and input through a random selection. Basically an Oracle deck can provide inspiration of how to deal with a situation. A random process is used to provide a way forward and it is generally applicable to any situation since the Oracle cards represents certain archetypical behaviors. Most Oracle cards are more positive than negative which allows one to always have a positive approach rather than a futile approach. A good Oracle deck can be an enriching experience as it allows you to apply its chosen theme to a variety of circumstances. In the process you learn a lot about yourself as well as the themes use in the deck.

I personally prefer Tarot which has a structured system with a definite pattern as foundation. But recently I enjoyed playing with two different Oracle decks.  The advantage of an Oracle deck is not in telling the future but in getting to know yourself better. I also recently bought a book called 'Six eminent mystics' which discusses six people who made an impact on the world. This triggered within me the desire to create my own personal Oracle deck with the people that has played an archetypical role within my personal growth and development. Looking at the people historical, mythical and in fantasy that has had an influence my life was very insightful.

As a child and young man I was not as much impressed by people. With age, as I review my own life, I am learning more and more from the lives of other people and their lives are more of an inspiration than before. I hope over time to write about my own Oracle deck .... the people that influenced me, the archetypical pattern they present to me, the meaning of that archetypical pattern for me in life, what we can learn from it and a bit of history on the specific person. This will be a new Xanga project and a process of self-discovery for me.

I am sure that in no time I will end up with 144 people that had influenced my thinking. Some of the people I would like to include are (in no particular order):

    1. Genl JC Smuts - Holism
    2. Sir Francis Bacon - Learning
    3. GI Gurdjieff - Self knowledge
    4. Mahatma Gandi - Peace
    5. JG Bennett - Structure
    6. Paracelsus - Healing
    7. Socrates - Questioning
    8. Alexander the great - Warrior
    9. Jesus the Christ - Love
    10. Nelson Mandela - Freedom
    11. Theuns Mare's - Recapitulation
    12. Hermes trismegistus - Transformation
    13. Merlin - Mentorship
    14. King Salomon - Wisdom
    15. Pythagoras - Silence
    16. Gautama Buddha - Meditation
    17. Sun Tzu - Strategy
    18. Lao Tsu - Yielding
    19. Marcus Aurelius - Duty

Who are the people that influence you and in which way?

In my previous post, I posted some of my daughters wisdom. Today I want to publish some of my sons wisdom. He wrote all these in a single night. Some of them made me laugh but mostly I was so deeply impressed by his wisdom. Salomo is having competition.

    ===============================

The only certainty about life is this:
Its starts. It happens. It ends.
The rest is rumours. Only you can determine if these rumours will be falsehoods or truths.

A person can not wear the hat of stupidity and the shoes of wealth at the same time.

    You're Imperfection makes you perfect.

War leads to more war. Love leads to more love.

The guilt of a crime can not be changed by a lie. It can only be made lighter by a confession

I am not a madman. I am not a loner. I am not part of the masses. I am the Individual.

Never pretend to be someone you're not, because you may just become them.

Some people start to live after they felt how it feels like to be dead.

If you change yourself completely to gain something. You have lost more than you have achieved.

There is much to say. Little to listen to.

Hear like the deaf. See like the blind. speak like the mute. Move like the disabled. And then you'll know gratitude.

One man can die so many times in one life time.

You think the weight on you're shoulders are unbearable because you must carry around the weight of the world!? Then you're sadly mistaken. The weight is so heavy, because you carry around the weight of you're stupidity.

Live like you have already lived, and you'll notice more.
Live like you're about to die, and you'll have no regrets.
Live like you can make a change in the world, and you will.

Do what you do but let others do the same.

Don't dwell on the past. Don't worry about the future. Don't waste the present.
Instead rejoice in what has been, anticipate what will happen and live in the moment.

  • Symbolic art

    Symbolic art

    Parenting

My daughter painted this painting which was a school assignment. She had to paint a symbolic painting that represents aspects of her life. Underneath is the explanation she wrote for the picture. It is really good to see through her eyes and something worthwhile sharing. It is her words unedited.

The painting is build on the following pattern:

The art assignment was to choose an object that symbolises you and to create a visual metaphor in the form of a painting.
The painting is about my personal spiritual awakening, my quest toward knowledge, wisdom, harmony with the Cosmos and purity. My morals and philosophies are also depicted in the painting.
The lotus represents me as a mystic, striving toward purity of heart, mind and soul as we
ll as enlightenment. The lotus flower reflects my personal spiritual awakening. The stem of the lotus flower represents my strength with which I rise above life’s circumstances, ascend to greater spiritual heights and greater awareness. As well as my connection to the material plane, but also my connection to the spiritual plane. The lotus flower only opens during daytime yet my lotus flower is open in the night as well which symbolises my eternal awakening and aspiring to better understand the mysteries of life. I am not scared of the unknown and mysteries which are accompanied by the night. The stem is also the channel between my mind and my heart which works together as one. Flowering plants of a pure strain have seven outside pedals. These are plants which have never been cross-pollinated with other plants, either intentionally or unintentionally, and which is becoming increasingly difficult to find. The lotus flower is one such pure type which never loses its individuality. Like the lotus flower I keep my individuality and stay true to myself. I am opened minded and strive to inspire people with my purity and beauty of my soul. The lotus flower represent being in harmony with The Cosmic laws and principles.

The lotus flower is illuminated by the light of the candles and by the glow of the moon. Light is an important element in my life and is rooted to my mystical teaching. The three candles represent the light, love and life. The light of the candle represent the rune, Kenaz (literally translation is “Torch”) and is the symbol of knowledge. The light illuminating from the candles represents my quest for knowledge, enlightenment and truth. It doesn’t only represent the search for knowledge but also the acquisition and application of knowledge. The light also represents my inner light which always keeps on shinning. The moon represents my personal self-realization, phases in my life and my femininity. The full Moon shares the symbolism of the circle as an image of wholeness and strength. I associate it with the essence of Yin and the feminine and also spiritual power. The moon isn’t as a full circle in my painting, symbolising that I am not perfect and complete but striving towards being relativistic; as time passes I will rise above the waters of my unconscious. There are 13 stars in my painting representing the 13 moon cycles in a year. Without self-realization, knowledge, wisdom and inner light I am lost in the shadows of the dark. I use my self-knowledge to rise above the subconscious (the water) and open up my awareness. My mystical teaching, inner light and morals lead me on to future enlightenment.
The water represents the rune Laguz. As well as my environment wherein I grow and the influences it has on my development. The ebb and flow of the water has cleansing properties, just like the environment within which I grow up. My psychic sensitivity, intuition, the watery flow of feeling and emotional tides are also suggested by the water. The water (my environment) can be a strong help in all situations where movement, growth and increase are required. The water (my environment) helps me open up to huge psychic and creative potential – imagination at its most powerful and rewarding. Water also represents my Subconscious. Our Subconscious is the limitless creative ocean of our Divine Nature which has direct accession The Great Sub-consciousness of Creation. Water is the realm of my feelings, dreams, imagination, and intuition. It is the realm of Spiritual and Mental Creation at the most subtle, sensitive and sentient level.
The koi fish is also a part of my sub-consciousness because it is under the water, but also because it is a moving entity it represents the power of the sub-conscious mind, as well as my courage and strength with which I face challenges in my life and those faced by my friends and family. Like the Koi fish I swim upstream. I am unique, have a strong personality and am determent to reach my goals.
The reflections in the water represents the fundamental law “As above, so below" that plays an important role in our lives.
The theme of duality is very strongly represented in the painting. Duality such as the moon and the sun (the lotus flower is the symbol of the sun), light and darkness and femininity (the moon and the lotus flower are strong feminine symbols) and masculinity (the koi fish is a masculine symbol). Duality presents us with a lifetime of challenges and choices. How we choose to reconcile (unite) matters of Duality determines the path we will travel during our life's journey through the material realm. Whenever we reconcile a Duality that presents itself to us, regardless of whether it is in material, mental, or spiritual matters, we create, and experience, a Balance (a harmony) in that particular area of our nature. Once we allow ourselves to "see", understand, and embrace the Duality that surrounds us, we are then able to make the proper Decisions which allow us to experience our Current Incarnation with Peace, Simplicity, and Contentment.
The composition is based on circular and triangular forms. The candles for example form a point-up triangle which represents my morals and values as a strong foundation, with stability, as it is rooted to a solid base. The point-up triangle can represent male energy, and fire and air are masculine elements. Point-up triangles can also represent ascension toward the spiritual world. While the watery path formed by the moon is a point-down triangle which represents female energy, and water and earth are feminine elements. The point-down triangle represents a descent into the physical world and further adds to the theme of duality.
The koi around the stem of the lotus flower, the moon and lotus flower are circular forms which is the symbol of Divinity. And because The Circle is a Symbol of Divinity it is also a Symbol of perfection, completeness and Unity. The Circle represents The Infinite; Eternity. It also represents the flow of Time and the ever repeating Cycles of Eternity which have no beginning and no end; Cycles which, when complete, flow back in to themselves and repeat anew.
The feeling I wanted to inspire in people through this painting is a feeling of inner peace. I tried to achieve this by my usage of colours and lines.
A lot of Blue was used for it is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven. Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect. Blue is strongly associated with tranquillity and calmness. In heraldry, blue is used to symbolize piety and sincerity.
Purple and pink is used in the lotus flower. Purple combines the stability of blue and the energy of red. Purple is associated with royalty. It symbolizes power, nobility, luxury, and ambition. It conveys wealth and extravagance. Purple is associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic. Adding thus to the meaning of the lotus flower. Pink is feminine and romantic, affectionate and intimate, thoughtful and caring. It tones down the physical passion of red replacing it with a gentle loving energy. Pink is intuitive and insightful, showing tenderness and kindness with its empathy and sensitivity. In colour psychology pink is a sign of hope. Pink inspires warm comforting feelings. Pink calms and reassures our emotional energies, alleviating feelings of anger and aggression.
The white symbolises purity, innocence, wholeness and completion. White is totally reflective, awakening openness, growth and creativity White is a colour of protection and encouragement, offering a sense of peace and calm, comfort and hope, helping alleviate emotional upsets. It creates a sense of order and efficiency, a great help if you need to declutter your life. White offers an inner cleansing and purifying of your thoughts, emotions and, ultimately, your spirit, refreshing and strengthening your entire energy system.
This painting is a visual metaphor of my essence. But it is not a full stop in my life, I will forever grow and my symbols forever change.

  • Poverty of wealth?

    Poverty of wealth

    Contemplation

What is better for spiritual growth? To be born in poverty or to be born in wealth? This is the question that is crossing my mind today. Of course both can lead to spiritual growth. The poor must battle to find a sense of self worth and might not be exposed to a broad background as a result of poverty. The rich on the other hand might be so materialistically imprisoned that they struggle to break into a spiritual world. If they do they may feel the struggle to give up on the luxury if demanded from their spiritual path.

In my own life I was not from a wealthy background. There was never abundance and never a lack. I grew up in a world of simplicity and stability. It allowed me a good happy upbringing yet without ever having the luxury to get spoiled. I was more happy than unhappy as a child. I learned to enjoy the simple things in life and not to expect too much from life either. I can not remember my first spiritual experiences clearly. My parents never talked to me about religion. They were regular in going to church, and I was in the Sunday school almost every week to be taught about the Christian belief system. My first memories of church life was sitting next to my Grand mother and teasing her as my only form of entertainment. I wish i could remember how I first listened to the old stories that impressed themselves on me about Samson and David...who both was raised in my mind as the ultimate hero's. Looking back the Old testament stories had the profound effect and certainly shaped my value system for the better.

Irrespective of wealth of poverty, we remain responsible for our choices and specifically need to account for our approach to religion or belief.  Out history is part of us and although we might not remember the details it has left its marks upon our thoughts.  Whether rich or poor we can all embrace the beautiful, the powerful and the edifying...that can lead us to a profound experience of being present as spiritual beings.

  • Spiritual evolution

    Spiritual evolution

    Personal reflection

Traces of the past directed our spiritual evolution

it ignited within us a need to define our purpose and meaning.

Purpose and meaning rises to consciousness when we connect with the Divine

When we connect with the Divine it accelerates and gives substance to our spiritual evolution.

We must awaken thought and discover potential to find purpose and meaning.

We must develop balance and harmony and celebrate discipline to connect to the Divine.

We must serve humanity and experience Divine love in order to spiritually evolve.

When we awaken our thought we will develop balance and harmony

When we develop balance and harmony we will discover our potential

When we discover our potential we will experience Divine love

When we experience Divine love we will celebrate discipline

When we celebrate discipline we will serve humanity

Thought, harmony and servitude are the first causes

Potential, discipline and Divine love are the controls

Spiritual evolution, purpose and a divine connection are the outcomes

We must awaken thought in order to discover our potential

We must develop balance and harmony in order to celebrate discipline

We must serve humanity in order to experience Divine love.

This the process of spiritual evolution from light to life to love

The realization of purpose and meaning is the source of inner light,

the connection we have with the Divine is the source of life

the continual spiritual evolution and growth is the source of love.
