Xanga and blogging
I will attempt to blog more often. In all honesty the new format of Xanga is not inviting community participation. The old Xanga set up was by far better than the current one and Xanga has done nothing (that I could see) since they made the change from one platform to another. It is a pity that the original concept behind Xanga had been lost. It is not just Xanga! I had been looking around at other blogging sites and there is nothing really that offer the type of community building that Xanga did. Facebook offers many features these days but I have lost my account twice on Facebook and I am reluctant to put any content there due to a lack of persistance in that information. I do believe the features are there to again create a oommunity but it requires a new way of thinking. Blogging is far more than just throwing a bunch of words onto a screen. Blogging is a need of an expression to be hurt and to connect with people with similar interests. I have currently 11 themed blogs on WordPress. At least in WordPress’s reader you can click on your tag lines and see similar blogs which allows you to generate new connections and quickly see what else is written about your field of interest. The features is there but it seems Xanga does not have the wil or desire to exploit it into a proper business model.

wonder what we can do about it?
Yeah, it’s indeed pretty awful.
You are right…the “new” Xanga does NOT promote community or dialogue or interaction between friends…or people with similar interests.
And there is NO other social media site that is like the “old” Xanga.
The most faithful readers I have on WP are former Xangans. I’ve made a few new friends on WP, but not as quickly as I did on Xanga.
I hope there will be further good changes to Xanga 2.0. I’m hanging in here and continuing to blog…not as often as I did before.
HUGS!!!
Even the new xanga format is easier to use than wordpress.
I think the drop off in xanga participation is simply because there are not nearly as many xangans nowadays and younger – along with some of us older xangans – now use more 21st century media – there is a lot more texting/photo swapping/selfies – something unheard of a decade ago.
I’ve never been a fan of facebook and twitter is a bad joke.
I think I’ll hang with xanga a little longer – hope does spring eternal -
I agree with you. I’ve been so disappointed at the change in Xanga. I miss old Xanga so much. I do have a WordPress and it’s more reply friendly but it doesn’t have some of the privacy features that I have always liked about Xanga. Another Xangan said she like blogster. I’ve looked at the front page but I have not attempted to start one. I like being able to have a community, expand it even, all while feeling safe and protected with my thoughts. peace always
Hi Jurgens!

Just passing by and “removing the dust” on this nearly dead account… It amazes me that time seems not to pass by Xanga as all this seems so primitive as 6 moths ago.
Well… Maybe it means that that time is really dead! Maybe what seems to be, is…
I’m going to check Faceboof now (where our posts vanish by miracle…)

The most community driven blogging site -which still lacks many features Xanga had- is now sett.com
